Real Madrid fans turn on Mbappe after social media post during El Clasico defeat

Kylian Mbappe has come under fresh criticism from Real Madrid supporters after posting on social media during Sunday’s damaging El Clasico defeat to Barcelona.

Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona officially confirmed a second straight season without major silverware, piling further pressure on the club following weeks of reports about dressing-room unrest.

The defeat deepened an already tense atmosphere at Valdebebas, where recent incidents involving senior players reportedly exposed growing fractures within the squad.

Last week, defender Antonio Rudiger was alleged to have slapped Alvaro Carreras during a confrontation, while midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni reportedly clashed with Federico Valverde in an altercation that left the latter hospitalised with concussion symptoms.

Mbappe post sparks backlash

Mbappe, who missed El Clasico and did not travel with the squad, stayed in Madrid during the match.

The France international later posted a photo on Instagram of himself watching the game with the caption “Hala Madrid”.

However, the timing of the post angered sections of the fanbase, especially as it came after Barcelona had already taken a 2-0 lead through goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres.

Many supporters took to social media to question Mbappe’s commitment during one of the club’s most difficult periods in recent years.

Pressure mounting on Mbappe

Despite maintaining strong individual numbers since arriving at Real Madrid, Mbappe’s first two seasons at the club have failed to deliver the success expected by supporters and club executives.

With Madrid enduring back-to-back trophyless campaigns, talks about the French superstar has intensified, particularly amid concerns over dressing-room harmony and his off-field distractions.

Club president Florentino Perez is not currently considering a sale, but reports suggest pressure could increase if performances and results do not improve next season.
