Reece James has called on Chelsea to concentrate on their own development after their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea made an explosive start when Morgan Rogers found the net after just 77 seconds, but Arsenal recovered through Kai Havertz before Martin Odegaard scored the decisive goal after the break.
The defeat brought Chelsea’s perfect start to the season to an end, but James believes it is too early to draw major conclusions about their chances of challenging for the Premier League title.
James refuses to look too far ahead
The Chelsea captain stressed that the club must avoid being distracted by the performances of their rivals and instead focus on improving under Xabi Alonso.
James told reporters, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano: “We’ll see where we are at the end of the season.”
He added: “We know what we have to do and we have to focus on ourselves and not let other teams distract us.”
His comments come as Chelsea continue to adjust to another significant squad rebuild during the summer transfer window.
The Blues showed promising moments against Arsenal, particularly after taking the lead and during the closing stages, but the hosts eventually pulled a comeback.
Chelsea still have time to develop
Arsenal’s victory extended their unbeaten run against Chelsea to 12 matches in all competitions, while the result also kept Mikel Arteta’s side level with Manchester City on nine points after three league games.
