The 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced his departure from the Obidient Movement while confirming he will remain in the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Rhodes-Vivour, a long-time ally of Peter Obi, distanced himself from the movement after Obi switched from the ADC to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, on Sunday.
Since Obi and his potential 2027 running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, joined the NDC, several ADC members have also defected to the new platform.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour said he and his team would stay in the ADC to continue working toward a better Nigeria.
“To those who have made the difficult decision to move on to a new platform, I offer my genuine respect and best wishes.
“These are hard choices, We are all fighting for a better Nigeria, even when our roads diverge. I want to make it clear that I am staying in the ADC,” he said.
He added that his decision reflects a commitment to building the ADC as a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking credible governance.
