The Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chibike Ikenga, has confirmed the authenticity of the screening committee’s report,which disqualified 65 aspirants and cleared 33 aspirants.
Ikenga made this confirmation on Monday while responding to questions in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’.
DAILY POST recalls that the state APC released the list of cleared and disqualified aspirants ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.
According to the list, 33 aspirants were cleared to participate in the primaries, while 65 others were not cleared.
All 32 aspirants believed to be aligned with the camp of Governor Siminalayi Fubara were disqualified from the exercise.
Reacting, Ikenga said, “I am fully in the know of this. In fact, I made a press release about this yesterday.
“The information you are putting across probably was elicited from my press release or from the party yesterday where we did inform the public that from the report of the House of Assembly screening committee that some persons were disqualified.
“I am aware of this because I was at the state party Secretariat with the screening committee from the very first day they came, until they finished. I was there, so I can speak alternatively on this.
“But I was not in Abuja to know all that I have heard; stories that I’ve heard from people, stories from the social media and even the conventional media like you.
“I was hearing that the governor actually stormed out of the screening committee. I’m not aware of this, and I can’t make news with this, because I’m not sure. I’ve not heard directly from those who participated.”
