The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Monday openly endorsed the emergence of lawmaker Kingsley Chinda as a governorship candidate, describing him as a seasoned politician with the experience and pedigree to lead.
Wike made the remarks while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, declaring that Chinda’s political background and legislative experience made his rise to the ticket both natural and expected.
According to him, “A good product sells itself,” insisting that Chinda had already proven his worth through years of service in both the executive and legislative arms of government.
“He is very experienced. He has worked in the executive and is now in the legislature. Everybody knows he is the material,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister also weighed in on the political development surrounding Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, expressing little surprise over his alleged withdrawal from the governorship contest.
Wike maintained that there was an earlier political understanding among stakeholders, insisting that Fubara should not have entered the race in the first place.
“I’m not surprised that the governor withdrew. He ought not to have picked the form because there was an agreement that impeachment would be dropped and he should not seek a second tenure,” he said.
He further accused the governor of breaching what he described as a gentleman’s understanding among political actors, faulting his initial decision to obtain nomination forms despite the arrangement.
