Senator Natasha’s allegations against Akpabio are riddled with contradictions – Agbakoba insists
Veteran Nigerian lawyer and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has once again called on Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduahan to withdraw her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Agbakoba criticised the senator for failing to clarify apparent contradictions in her claims, particularly regarding the timeline and public conduct following the alleged incident.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Agbakoba’s law firm, Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL), represented Akpabio in the case.
All Facts recalls that on April 14, Agbakoba sent a letter to the Kogi Central Senator asking her to provide verifiable evidence to support her allegations of sexual misconduct against Senate President .
The allegation sparked considerable controversy, culminating in Akpoti-Uduagan’s suspension.
At a press conference at Lagos on Tuesday, Agbakoba explained that the second letter was necessary because the Senator failed to address inconsistencies found in her initial allegations.
He noted that instead of addressing concerns about inconsistencies – particularly regarding the dates of her allegations of harassment and the dates of her subsequent public praise of Akpabio on social media – Akpoti-Uduagan simply deleted the posts in question.
The legal expert said: “ Recall that in our first letter to you, we sought to clarify the inconsistencies in your allegations against our client Akpabio.
“Of note are the inconsistencies in terms of timing and dates. You failed to clarify the allegations of sexual harassment on December 8, 2023, and the praises of Akpabio on your social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter) on December 9, 2023, the day after you accused him of sexually harassing you.
“Instead of clarifying this contradiction, you deleted the social media posts, which is extremely disturbing to us.”
Agbakoba further stressed that the burden of proof remains on the accuser and asked why it took the Senator more than a year to make her allegations public.
“You claim that the sexual harassment occurred on December 8, 2023, but your allegations were not made until February 28, 2025. One year and two months later? “Instead of addressing the serious allegations of December 8, 2023, you attended several parliamentary and non-legislative events (national and international) throughout 2024 with Akpabio, the person you are accused of harassing you.
For example, you were seen with him at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva on March 24-25, 2024. In fact, you took multiple selfies and photos with him at these events.
“You posted about all these events in an enthusiastic tone on your social media platforms. Please see the screenshots of your Facebook posts and other photos with Akpabio. We find this contradictory and incredible.
“In view of this, and our failure to clarify the discrepancies we pointed out, in our first letter to you, we asked you to withdraw the allegations of sexual harassment against our client because they are clearly false and unfounded,
