A Nigerian lady has shared how she ended up with a phone that was mistakenly delivered to her after she placed an order on a popular online store, revealing that she eventually returned the package to the delivery man.
According to the lady, she had used her former workplace as her delivery address because she had ordered several items from the online shopping platform. She said the delivery man arrived with the packages and spent some time with her sorting them out before leaving.
After returning home from work, she began unboxing her items and discovered that everything she had ordered was present except for one additional package.
She checked her Jumia account to confirm whether she had ordered the item and realised that she had not. Curious about its contents, she said she tried to look inside but the package was tightly sealed and had no name attached to it.
Her sister reportedly felt the package and discovered that it contained a phone.
The lady said she immediately tried contacting the delivery man, but his phone number was initially unavailable.
“I picked my phone and called the delivery man. The number wasn’t available. I dropped a message.”
She said there was no response the following day and subsequent attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. On the third day, however, the number rang, although the delivery man did not answer.
She then sent him a message explaining that he had accidentally left another customer’s phone package with her.
“Please, is Jessie, the lady you came to deliver some items to, you left someone’s phone package with me.”
According to her, the delivery man subsequently made more than 10 missed calls before asking where she was and whether he could come the following day to collect the package.
The woman told him to come immediately, explaining that the package had already been in her bag for three days.
When he arrived, she said he thanked her and explained why his number had initially been unreachable. According to the delivery man, the company had disciplined him over the missing package by withholding his salary for that month.
“He was miserable, didn’t see any need to work until he saw my message.”
The lady said the delivery man repeatedly thanked and blessed her and even attempted to give her ₦500 as a token of appreciation, which she declined.
She concluded by saying that such a mistake could happen to anyone and encouraged people to be careful when receiving deliveries.
