An Islamic cleric and national leader of the , Sheikh Gwani Yusuf Hamza Yusuf (Abu Abdulmajid), has called on Kwara State Governor, , to end what he described as the “persistent victimisation and harassment” of former Senate President and his allies.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the cleric said the political feud in Kwara State has become a distraction at a time when Northern Nigeria is grappling with economic and security challenges.
Gwani Yusuf criticised actions by state authorities, including the decision to arraign Saraki and his associates before the Kwara State High Court over the 2018 Offa robbery incident, describing the move as a political witch-hunt.
“What we are witnessing in Kwara today is not accountability; it is victimisation and harassment of a prominent northern son,” he said. “The governor must rise above personal politics and govern for all Kwarans, because everything in life is a matter of time.”
The cleric warned that the ongoing political rift in Kwara State could undermine the North’s collective interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The North cannot afford to be seen cannibalising its own leaders while we ask other regions to respect our political strength. Unity is not a slogan; it is a strategy,” he added.
“We need to build bridges, not burn them, in the interest of a united and prosperous Northern Nigeria.”
