A strong earthquake has struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said, sending out tremors that could be felt from the capital, Kabul, across the border into neighbouring Pakistan and India-adminstered Kashmir.
People ran out of their doors in panic in Swat district in northern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, residents said.
The epicentre was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
It was felt in Islamabad, as well as in the eastern province of Punjab and the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan. It was also felt in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
“It was very huge here in Swat, and it lasted for quite a long time,” a resident said.
