Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a robbery gang based in Lagos while carrying out a robbery attack in the Ibafo area of the state.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in an exclusive conversation with NewsWatch Metro on Thursday.
Babaseyi said the suspect was arrested following a swift response by the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Division after a distress call over an armed robbery attack in the Maba/Asese area via Ibafo.
According to Babaseyi, the DPO received a distress call at about 1:25 a.m. on May 30, 2026, reporting that armed robbers were attacking residents in the area.
He noted that the DPO immediately mobilised patrol and anti-crime teams to the scene.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects fled into a nearby bush. Following a hot pursuit, one Ganiyu Adesegun, ‘M’, aged 21 years, was arrested,” he said.
Babaseyi said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of two live cartridges.
He added that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that the gang consisted of four members who travelled from Lagos to carry out the robbery operation.

Babaseyi said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
He added that the suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Eleweran, after preliminary investigation,” Babaseyi concluded.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the command to curb cross-border criminal activities between Lagos and Ogun States.
NewsWatch Metro reported on June 5 that the command arrested seven suspects for alleged armed robbery, housebreaking, stealing, conspiracy, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace in separate operations across the state.
Babaseyi had said that the arrests were made during coordinated intelligence-driven operations carried out by operatives in the Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado Divisions.
Some of the suspects were identified as Pelumi Akintonde (21), Mojeed Sanusi (28) and Mubarak Lateef (17) over an alleged armed robbery incident in the Alasia community.
