The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reinforced the country’s electricity network with the commissioning of new transmission line connections in the Ihovbor corridor.
The project covers turn-in-turn-out connections for the Ihovbor/Benin and Ihovbor/Ajaokuta 330kV lines, which were successfully energised on April 23.
According to the company, the upgrade provides increased capacity to transmit electricity generated by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company and Azura Power plants to the national grid.
Current transmission figures show the Ihovbor/Benin line carrying about 200 megawatts, while the Ihovbor/Ajaokuta line transmits roughly 90 megawatts.
“The commissioning delivers the Ihovbor corridor and provides additional evacuation capacity for NDPHC and Azura Power,” TCN stated.
The company added that the new infrastructure will ease transmission bottlenecks, enhance electricity reliability, and improve overall grid performance.
It added that the new lines will “strengthen power evacuation from the Ihovbor generating plant and improve grid stability and reliability in the affected regions.”
It described the development as part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transmission network and meet growing energy demand, noting that the upgrade will strengthen power evacuation from the Ihovbor generating plant while improving supply stability across connected regions.
