Irish actress Brenda Fricker, best known for her role in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has died at the age of 81.

According to TMZ, her manager, Phil Belfield, confirmed that the actress passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Belfield paid tribute to Fricker, describing her as a remarkable person whose absence will be deeply felt.

“We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her. I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world love,” he said.

Brenda Fricker was an acclaimed Irish actress whose career lasted more than six decades across film, television, and theatre.

Born on February 17, 1945, in Dublin, Ireland, she initially studied journalism before entering acting at the age of 19 with an uncredited role in the 1964 film Of Human Bondage.

Her major breakthrough came in 1989 when she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Christy Brown’s mother in My Left Foot.

Fricker later appeared in more than 30 films and television productions, including The Field (1990), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), and A Time to Kill (1996).

Her work earned her international recognition and made her one of Ireland’s most respected actresses.
