Alhaji Ibrahim Shaaban Sharada, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency and served as spokesperson to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State to persuade other senatorial aspirants to step down for him, describing himself as the most qualified candidate.
Sharada, who stormed the APC secretariat on Audu Bako Road, Kano, on Thursday to submit his nomination form amid hundreds of supporters, said he should be adopted as the consensus candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial District.
“As somebody who represented Kano Municipal at the House of Representatives and who, today, serves as Director of the African Legislative Chambers, I believe I should be allowed to contest as the consensus candidate,” he said.
“Apart from being the Director of the African Legislative Chambers, I am also the Global Vice Chairman of the Legislative Council. With these experiences, I believe I am the most qualified candidate for this job.”
Sharada noted that during his tenure in the House of Representatives, he left an indelible mark, adding that his constituents remain fully behind him in his fresh political journey.
He also revealed that an African leader with whom he served on the African Legislative Council had invited two Nigerian governors to his inauguration as president, with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf among them.
Sharada assured party members that his candidacy would guarantee APC’s victory at all levels, stressing that his grassroots appeal and dedication to his constituents would further consolidate the party’s gains.
Meanwhile, the Kano State APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, said the party leadership would ensure fairness and justice for all aspirants, irrespective of their status.
“Our duty is to provide a free, fair and level playing field for all members of the party, regardless of who they are, because justice and fairness are the lasting ingredients of any association,” Doguwa said.
