Thailand Pub Fire: At least 27 people were killed and dozens injured after a massive fire broke out at a pub in Bangkok early Monday morning. Videos shared on social media platforms showed the blaze raging and plumes of black smoke coming out of the front door of the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in the northern part of the Thai capital. According to rescuers, the fire erupted around midnight, claiming many lives.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the death of 27 people in the unfortunate tragedy. He told reporters at the scene that the cause of the huge fire is under investigation. Meanwhile, Anutin said that a musician performing at the packed pub alerted him that smoke was coming out of a circuit breaker near the stage before the electricity supply was cut off. Following this, a blast was heard, and thick smoke quickly filled the venue, the musician added. Many of the victims were reportedly found at the restrooms at the back of the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok.

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt said that more than 60 people were shifted to the hospital, out of which 22 were in critical condition. He added that authorities are trying to identify victims, as many did not carry an ID or were unconscious. Meanwhile, firefighters took about half an hour to contain the devastating blaze. Photos of the aftermath show charred furniture and the damaged interior of the building.

What caused the fire at the Bangkok pub?
