A lady has sparked reactions on social media after defending Nigerians who continue to discuss allegations surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s past legal proceedings in the United States.
In a viral video, the woman argued that Nigerians should be able to scrutinise the president, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
‘You have to fight Nigerians to fight for Nigerians’
Referencing a statement previously made by social commentator Solomon Buchi, she said she could relate to the idea that people sometimes have to challenge their fellow Nigerians in order to advocate for the country.
“When Solomon Buchi said, sometimes you have to fight Nigerians to fight for Nigerians, you guys thought he was joking but he wasn’t and I can relate,” she said.
She explained that she decided to respond to a particular social media comment because she was angered by the suggestion that Nigerians should stop discussing Tinubu.
“Take this guy for example, usually I never respond to comments but you see this one, it pissed me off,” she added.
She raises Tinubu’s US legal case
The woman alleged that Tinubu had been connected to heroin trafficking in the United States and questioned why Nigerians should be discouraged from discussing the matter.
“The current president of Nigeria who is also a presidential candidate for the 2027 elections was found connected to a large heroin drug trafficking activity,” she claimed.
She also referred to money linked to accounts associated with Tinubu in the United States.
However, the existence of the US legal proceedings is not the same as a criminal conviction for heroin trafficking.
FactCheckAfrica reported in September 2026 that the US proceedings involving historical records linked to Tinubu did not establish that he was convicted of heroin trafficking.
She mentions alleged $3 million offer
The woman also alleged that Tinubu was involved in an attempt to pay $3 million to US officials.
“That’s who you’re telling us we should stop talking about,” she said.
The $3 million allegation relates to a claim made by US lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York. The firm alleged that its founder, Karl Von Batten, received an unsolicited offer of $3 million from an individual it was told was connected to Tinubu.
However, FactCheckAfrica reported that the allegation had not been independently verified and that there was no publicly available evidence establishing that the alleged offer came from Tinubu or his administration. The Presidency has also rejected the allegation.
She also speaks on Iran school bombing
The woman went on to discuss the February 2026 bombing of a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, while responding to arguments about the incident.
She claimed that reports had established that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), rather than Israel, was responsible and accused some Nigerians of “projecting”.
Available reporting, however, does not support presenting the IRGC as the confirmed perpetrator.
Al Jazeera reported that the school was struck during the opening hours of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran, while both the US and Israel initially denied responsibility.
Subsequent investigations cited by Al Jazeera pointed towards a US strike, although the circumstances surrounding the attack remained contested.
‘He must be joking’
Returning to her argument about Tinubu, the woman questioned why Nigerians should be told to stop discussing the president and his record.
“That’s who you want us to entrust the lives of 200 and something million people in his hands,” she said.
She concluded by insisting that Nigerians should continue discussing issues involving the president.
“You’re telling us we should stop talking about him. He must be joking,” she said.
