A lady has recounted a dramatic family moment after her 12-year-old brother reportedly confronted their father during a discussion about menstruation, sparking widespread reactions on social media over parenting, education and gender sensitivity.
According to the lady, the incident happened while she was explaining periods to her younger brother after he asked questions about a female classmate who had started menstruating in school.
She said the boy wanted to understand the experience better so he would not embarrass his friend or make insensitive remarks around her.
Brother defends discussion about periods
“My dad used to call periods ‘gross.’ He always said men shouldn’t hear about ‘women’s stuff,’” the lady narrated.
“Last week, my 12-year-old brother asked me what periods were like because one of his friends had gotten hers at school. So I explained cramps, mood swings, pain and even said chocolate helps sometimes,” she added.
The lady explained that while they were discussing the issue, their father interrupted from the kitchen and condemned the conversation.
Boy’s response leaves family speechless
“From the kitchen, my dad shouted, ‘Stop talking about that disgusting crap. Boys don’t need to know about it.’ Before I could respond, my little brother looked him dead in the eye and said, ‘That’s why mum divorced you,’” she recounted.
According to her, the statement immediately silenced the entire house, while their father reportedly walked away without another word.
