Bishop Kwabena Asiamah, popularly known as Ajagurajah, has stirred debate with comments attributing recent flooding incidents in Accra to spiritual causes rather than infrastructural challenges.
Speaking on the issue, the religious leader claimed that the floods should not be viewed primarily as a result of drainage systems or urban development problems, but rather as a form of spiritual displeasure.
“The gods are upset. Appease the gods, and everything will be okay. It has nothing to do with architectural structure. Look at the spiritual side first,” he stated.
He further argued that flooding is not unique to Ghana, noting that even highly developed countries experience similar events.
According to him, this demonstrates that floods are not necessarily tied to engineering or environmental planning failures.
Ajagurajah added that, in his view, natural disasters such as flooding can be interpreted as punishment when spiritual forces are angered, insisting that water-related disasters are the most common form of such occurrences.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his spiritual interpretation while others strongly disagreeing, pointing instead to drainage systems, climate change, and urban planning as the primary causes of flooding.
