A thief suspected of stealing from a local church has been subjected to an unconventional and humiliating form of justice after being caught on the premises, with footage showing him drenched on the church floor and forced to sing while those who apprehended him laughed and recorded the scene.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the man gripping a chair in the wet church hall, audibly singing and shouting while laughter is heard from the individuals filming the incident.
While the punishment avoided the physical violence that often accompanies theft accusations in community justice situations, it is said that subjecting any individual, regardless of alleged wrongdoing to humiliating treatment without due process remains outside the bounds of Ghanaian law.
The video has sparked an interesting conversation on the Ghanaian internet as many tend to ask the moral right of thieves who only resort to stealing in the house of the Lord.
