Thousands of APC supporters welcome Buni, Wali after Abuja screening

Thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday thronged Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, to welcome Governor Mai Mala Buni and the party’s preferred governorship aspirant, Baba Malam Wali, following their successful screening in Abuja.

The supporters, drawn from the 17 local government areas of the state, converged on the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in a massive show of solidarity for the governor and the APC leadership in the state.

Addressing the crowd at the airport, Governor Buni described the turnout as evidence of the strength and unity of the APC in Yobe State.

“Today’s outing is a true indication that Yobe State is the home of APC,” the governor said.

He urged party members and supporters to remain united and avoid actions capable of creating division within the party.

“We remain one united family. We must not allow politics to divide us,” he said.

The governor also cautioned supporters against political banter, name-calling and abusive language, stressing that such conduct was inconsistent with the culture and values of the people of the state.

“We should avoid banter, name-calling and abuse. It is not in our culture and character, and we must not tolerate it,” he added.

Mr Buni commended party supporters for their continued support for his administration and for backing decisions taken by the APC leadership in the state.

According to him, the cooperation and confidence reposed in the administration had contributed to several developmental achievements, including the establishment of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Damaturu.

“Your support and cooperation with our administration have produced fruitful results, including this airport,” he said.

The governor also expressed appreciation to party faithful for supporting the emergence of Baba Malam Wali as the party’s preferred governorship aspirant.

“Your faith in the decisions of the party, which produced the preferred governorship aspirant, is quite encouraging and supportive. Thank you all,” Mr Buni said.

The event attracted party stakeholders, youth groups, women supporters and political loyalists from across the state, who accompanied the governor and the aspirant in a celebratory procession through parts of Damaturu.
