Three people have died while 10 others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident occurred at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday around the Long Bridge, opposite Mikano, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command.
The crash involved a white Mazda bus, a white Toyota bus and a white Toyota Corolla, with one of the vehicles reportedly falling off the bridge.
The FRSC said 16 people were involved in the incident, comprising 12 males and four females. Ten victims, nine males and one female, were injured, while three females were confirmed dead.
According to the command, it received a distress report about the crash at 5:34 p.m., with its rescue team arriving at the scene six minutes later.
Preliminary findings indicated excessive speed and loss of control as possible causes of the accident. The FRSC, however, said investigations were still ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
Rescue personnel immediately commenced emergency operations and managed traffic around the affected section of the expressway.
The injured victims were evacuated to AZ Hospital, Magboro, and the Accident and Emergency Centre in Ojota for treatment.
The remains of the three deceased victims were subsequently taken to Ifo Morgue and Idera Morgue, Sagamu, by personnel of the FRSC and the Ogun State Ambulance Service.
The three vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Warewa, for further investigation.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished those injured a quick recovery.
He advised motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to drive cautiously, avoid speeding and maintain proper control of their vehicles to reduce the risk of crashes.
