President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security framework and intelligence coordination.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to improving intelligence-driven security operations, enhancing inter-agency collaboration and addressing emerging security threats across the country.
The statement, signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chris Ugwuegbulam, said the appointment was conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
It described Major General Fadewa (Rtd) as a highly decorated military officer with more than three decades of experience in national security strategy, intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism operations and international security diplomacy.
Before his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.
During his tenure at the Office of the National Security Adviser, he was credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform designed to strengthen information sharing and strategic coordination among security agencies.
The platform brought together key security and intelligence institutions, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, to improve national threat assessment and coordinated response mechanisms.
Following his retirement, Fadewa joined the Nigerian Army Resource Centre as a Senior Research Fellow, where he contributed to research and policy development on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reforms.
The statement also noted that he authored a monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which proposed frameworks for strengthening collaboration between civil institutions and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would bring his experience and strategic expertise to bear in supporting the administration’s efforts to build a safer and more secure country.
The President urged him to deploy his professionalism and knowledge in advancing national security objectives and supporting the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
