President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to prioritise infrastructure development under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as critical to economic growth and improved quality of life.Tinubu made the remarks on Friday in Abuja through Vice President
Kashim Shettima during the inauguration of Collector Roads 01 and 02 in the Mabushi District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The President said infrastructure remained the backbone of a modern economy, emphasising that the Renewed Hope Agenda was delivering tangible benefits through improved roads, connectivity and mobility.
“Renewed Hope is not just a slogan. It is the road you drive on, the ease with which you get to work, and the confidence that government is working for you.
“When roads connect, businesses grow. When movement is easy, productivity rises. When travel is safe, citizens are free. That is the Renewed Hope Agenda at work,” he said.
Tinubu said that the newly completed roads had created seamless links across Mabushi, connecting the bus terminal to other parts of the FCT and improving traffic flow.
“It is a fact that infrastructure is the backbone of a modern economy. Roads are not just asphalt.
“They are the veins of commerce, the bridges of unity, and the channels through which our people pursue their dreams without fear or delay,” he said.
According to the President, the roads would strengthen interconnectivity within the district and contribute to the overall development of the nation’s capital.
He recalled that residents had endured years of traffic congestion, delays and poor connectivity before the intervention by his administration.
“As an administration, our vision remains clear: a world-class capital that works for every resident, whether you live in Asokoro or Kuje, in Wuse or Gwagwalada.
“Interconnectivity is how we get there, one road at a time, one district at a time, until no community is left behind,” he added.
Tinubu thanked residents of the FCT for their patience during the construction period, acknowledging the inconveniences caused by traffic diversions and construction activities.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting his administration, assuring them that more roads, jobs and development projects would follow.
The President also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across the territory.
“I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all.’ You took it and ran with it.
“From satellite towns to the city centre, you are turning blueprints into roads people can drive on today,” he said.
Earlier, Wike said the commissioning of the collector roads was in line with the President’s directive to improve infrastructure across all districts of the FCT.
He attributed the achievements recorded in the territory to Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to support the administration to sustain ongoing development projects.
Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a major milestone in efforts to open up communities and stimulate economic activities across the capital city.
She thanked the President and Vice President for their support toward the successful execution of infrastructure projects in the FCT.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
