A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has raised doubts over the ability of major opposition figures to retain their previous voter base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a programme on Channels Television, Momodu said it is no longer certain that key politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso can still command the same level of support they received in the 2023 presidential election.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that he argued that the political environment has changed, making it risky to assume that past voting patterns will remain the same.
According to him, relying on previous election figures may not reflect the current mood of voters across the country.
Momodu also claimed that President Bola Tinubu could face a serious challenge if the next election is conducted in a transparent manner, stating that the outcome may be very different from expectations.
He said: “How are you sure that Atiku will retain all those who voted for him the last time? What is the guarantee that Obi and Kwankwaso are the only people who will retain all those who voted for them the last time? The situation has changed. Tinubu today, if he allows a free and fair election, might not even get three million votes.”
