President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Peter Chukwuemeka Chijioke Onwubuariri, Assistant Director, Media, at the Presidential Villa.
Onwubuariri, a veteran journalist and public servant, died after a prolonged illness.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the death as a painful loss to the Presidency, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the media community and the country.
Onwubuariri, a former North American Correspondent of NAN, was posted to the Presidential Villa in 2014, where he served in the media teams of three successive administrations led by Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu.
He covered major national and international issues, including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics and finance.
Before his Villa posting, Onwubuariri rose through the ranks at NAN, eventually becoming an Assistant Editor-in-Chief and contributing to the agency’s editorial operations.
Tinubu commended his professionalism, dedication and commitment to public service, describing his service across three administrations as a testament to his competence and loyalty to the nation.
The President said Onwubuariri’s calm disposition and wealth of experience earned him the respect of colleagues and associates.
“His passing is a great loss to the Presidential Villa, the media fraternity and Nigeria. He will be remembered for his diligence, his wealth of experience and his contributions to journalism and national service,” Tinubu said.
The President extended his condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, Catherine, his three children, extended family, colleagues and friends.
He prayed for strength for the family and eternal rest for the deceased.
