Tinubu Should Step Down For Failing To Protect Nigerians — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

A national leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to resign ahead of the 2027 general elections over what he described as worsening insecurity in the country.

Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to Tinubu, accused the President of failing in his responsibility to protect lives and property across Nigeria.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, he also called on Nigerians to reject Tinubu in the next election.

“It’s clear Tinubu has no handle on the escalating menace. Everything that needed to be said by the media, National Assembly, and civil societies have been said, but Tinubu and his supporters believe that this is a problem that we can live with,” he said.

He added that insecurity had spread across the country, leaving citizens vulnerable.

“In a civilized society, Tinubu’s record on insecurity should have cost him his seat a long time ago. It’s not too late to say that the President should resign. If you check what he’s doing between now and the election, we don’t even need to wait, we will reject him,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed maintained that his call was not partisan or confrontational, insisting it was based on governance concerns.

“Do we need to wait until more children are taken and the country is overrun by criminality? There is nothing wrong or partisan in saying the President should resign.

“In a democratic setting, the President has two basic responsibilities: to protect citizens and to protect the system. Tinubu has failed to protect anybody. Every part of Nigeria is now vulnerable. Children in schools are being taken. What do you say to a President who has failed?”

He concluded by calling for Tinubu’s resignation, saying, “Sir, you cannot run this country, so please step down. It is not a party issue, it is the right thing to do.”
