Troops arrest bandit informant in Katsina

Troops have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of working as an informant for armed bandits in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The suspect, identified as Sa’adu Sama from Girtaji village, was reportedly gathering information about the deployment and capabilities of security forces operating around the Katsina-Kano border.

His arrest followed intelligence reports on the movement of armed bandits in the area, prompting troops to intensify surveillance and maintain blocking positions across their area of responsibility.

According to a special situation report obtained by Zagazola Makama, residents of Tsaure alerted troops at about 10:25am on Wednesday after noticing the suspect behaving suspiciously in the community.

The suspect was allegedly seen moving around the area and questioning children about the number of troops deployed nearby, as well as their vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment.

The children reportedly informed community elders, who subsequently alerted troops at the Forward Operating Base in Tsaure.

Troops immediately moved to the area and arrested the suspect.

Security sources said the suspect was later taken to the Brigade Headquarters, where he is expected to undergo further interrogation and investigation.

The arrest underscores the role of community members in providing timely intelligence to security agencies and disrupting activities linked to criminal networks.

The security situation around the Forward Operating Bases and Joint Task Force locations was described as calm, while troops continued surveillance operations across the area.

The morale and fighting spirit of the troops were also reported to remain high.
