US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a high-level meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The summit between the two leaders is expected to focus on major global issues including the Iran crisis, trade relations and Taiwan.
Although official talks will begin on Thursday, Trump received a grand welcome at Beijing Capital International Airport. He was welcomed with a military parade, music performances and cheering crowds.
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, Ambassador Xie Feng and other senior officials were present to receive him.
Before leaving Washington, Trump dismissed reports of tension between him and Xi over the Iran situation. He expressed confidence that the visit would produce positive results.
Trump also described the United States and China as “the two superpowers” and said he hoped both countries would continue to cooperate.

Trade negotiations between the US and China
America’s planned arms sales to Taiwan, which China strongly opposes
Trump said economic issues would play a major role during the talks.
He is also expected to push for increased Chinese purchases of American products such as soybeans, beef and aircraft.
Reports say both leaders may also discuss plans for a joint US-China trade board to help settle future trade disputes.
In addition, Trump is expected to raise the idea of a nuclear arms agreement involving the US, China and Russia aimed at reducing nuclear weapons stockpiles.
The visit comes at a politically sensitive time for Trump as he faces pressure at home over inflation concerns and tensions linked to the Iran conflict.
