‘Situation is under control’
The General Staff reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorists and assured Chadians that “the situation is under control.”
“Once again, the terrorist nebula Boko Haram perpetrated, last night, a cowardly attack against our Barka Tolorom military base, in Lake Chad province,” President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno said on Facebook.
“Faced with barbarism, Chad remains standing, united and inflexible. We will pursue the fight with renewed determination until the total eradication of this threat.”
Boko Haram, a terror group based in Nigeria, has repeatedly targeted Chadian positions around Lake Chad as part of its regional campaign.
Chad’s military has been at the forefront of multinational efforts to combat the group in the Lake Chad Basin, where attacks have caused heavy casualties on both sides in recent years.
