Operatives of the anti-robbery unit under the Ogun State Police Command have traced and recovered a Toyota Matrix taken during a hotel robbery, nearly two months after the incident.
The vehicle, which had no registration, was stolen when gunmen attacked De-Ultimate Hotel along Sokoto/Badagry Road in the Atan Ota area.
Police said two car dealers are now in custody over their alleged links to the case.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the breakthrough followed sustained investigative efforts.
Providing details, Babaseyi said: “On the 18th of Feb. 2026 at about 0130hrs, Armed Robbers stormed D- ultimate hotel, Sokoto/ Badagry road, Atan Ota, Ogun State, robbed one Joseph Bankole and the staff of the hotel of valuables, which include an unregistered Toyota matrix car, phones and other valuables.
“Men of the Anti-Robbery Unit SCID Eleweran, led by SP Gbenga Ayodele, the OC Anti-Robbery, swung into action, leading to the recovery of the car in Lagos on the 15th of April 2026. Investigations are still ongoing.

The police added that efforts are underway to track down other suspects believed to have participated in the robbery.
