The Ghana Police Service has listed two military and three police officers among seven members of a robbery syndicate linked to a series of attacks across Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi, where victims were robbed of cash, gold, and mercury.
The Police Service, in a statement published on its social media platforms on Tuesday said the suspects were arrested by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP.
According to the statement, the arrest followed report by one Mousa Bamba, an Ivorian investor that he was lured to Dzorwulu area of Ghana by some people who claimed they wanted to buy six kilograms of gold valued at US$450,000.00 from him.
However, the suspects who later posed as CID operatives and military personnel allegedly robbed him at gunpoint and fled the scene.
Following the report by Bamba police began investigations that led to the arrest of two suspects Mohammed Umaro alias Alhaji and Gabriel Sewornu alias Dangote.
Ghana Police Service said further investigations implicated two soldiers identified as Lance Corporals Eugene Akurugu and Emmanuel Arko alias Bullet as well as three Police officers identifies as Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga in the robbery incident.
It added that the policemen have been interdicted to allow for investigations.
The Police Service added that intelligence-led operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP resulted in the arrest of additional suspects, including Justin Oduro alias Don King alias Mafia, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari on 23rd and 24th May 2026.
“All suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices connected to the syndicate,” Ghana Police Service said.
