Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Lakwaya village in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, killing two persons and injuring several others.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the attackers stormed the community on Thursday at about 4 p.m. on more than 30 motorcycles, shooting sporadically at residents and causing panic in the area.
A traditional ruler in the village, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants invaded the community from Gidan Biris, a border town between Kano and Katsina states.
According to him, two persons were killed during the attack, one in Lakwaya village and another in Gidan Biris.
The traditional ruler said the gunmen also rustled cattle before troops arrived at the scene and engaged them.
“Right now, as we are speaking with you, there is a clash going on. Soldiers have just arrived and are responding accordingly. As I am speaking with you now, I am standing beside the body of one of those killed,” he said.
“The attackers came on more than 30 motorcycles around 4 p.m. and started shooting sporadically. Troops are currently responding to the attack based on the information I received,” he added.
He noted that no case of abduction had been reported so far, but confirmed that the attackers made away with residents’ cattle.
According to him, the body of one of the victims was taken to Gwarzo General Hospital for examination and would later be returned to Lakwaya for burial after normalcy is restored.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the military were unsuccessful, as at the time of filing this report.
