LONDON – Two men were found guilty in a London court on May 7 of spying on behalf of Hong Kong and ultimately China, targeting prominent pro-democracy dissidents now based in Britain but with bounties offered for their arrest.
Chung Biu “Bill” Yuen, 65, and Chi Leung “Peter” Wai, 40, both dual Chinese and British nationals, denied assisting a foreign intelligence service between December 2023 and May 2024.
After a trial at London’s Old Bailey court, Yuen and Wai were convicted of one count of assisting a foreign intelligence service.
The jury could not reach a verdict on a separate count relating to forcing entry into a residential address in northern England in May 2024 shortly before their arrest. REUTERS
