Two residents were on Friday, rescued from the rubble of a collapsed residential building in the Kubwa area of Abuja, after the right section of the one-storey structure caved in.
The victims, who were trapped inside their ground-floor apartment, were pulled out by emergency responders and taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.
The FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, said it received a distress call at 11:38am, about 8 minutes after the incident occurred at Kubwa 2/2, by Yellow Page.
Spokesperson of the department, Nkechi Isa, said the affected building comprised six blocks of flats, adding that other residents were reportedly out for the day when the incident occurred.
Isah, in a press statement stated that, “Two residents trapped in the rubble of a collapsed one storey building located at Kubwa 2/2 by yellow page have been rescued.”
She said household items were destroyed in the incident, while officials of the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also attended the scene.
The cause of the building collapse was not immediately disclosed.
