Two men allegedly involved in supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene town and its environs in Akwa Ibom State have been arrested.

The arrest of the suspects was confirmed in a statement by the public relations of Akwa Ibom Police Command, DSP Timfom John, in Uyo on Saturday.

She said operatives of the command arrested the two suspected criminals following credible intelligence on Friday.

The PPRO said that upon a thorough search conducted on the suspects, one locally made revolver pistol was recovered.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal network allegedly involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs,” she said.

The police spokesperson said that discreet investigation had commenced with a view to arresting other members of the criminal syndicate, adding that the command would ensure that all suspects connected with the crime are prosecuted.

She noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Azare, reaffirms the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and cutting off supply channels of illegal arms fueling violent crimes across the State.

“The Command continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police formation,” she said. (NAN)
