Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo says the Federal Government has ordered immediate action to address the deplorable condition of the Benin-Agbor Road, following an inspection of the highway.
Okpebholo disclosed this after joining the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, on an inspection of the road on Tuesday, alongside members of the National Assembly, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and other stakeholders.
The governor said the inspection provided an opportunity to assess the condition of the road and the difficulties being faced by commuters and residents.
According to Okpebholo, Umahi apologised to the people of Edo and Delta states over the condition of the road and directed immediate measures to address the situation.
The governor also said the minister ordered action against contractors allegedly removing asphalt from federal roads without authorisation.
“Edo is a major gateway connecting several parts of the country, and we will continue to work with the Federal Government to restore our roads and ease the hardship faced by our people,” Okpebholo said.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding promptly to concerns raised over the condition of the road.
Okpebholo also appealed to youths and residents to remain calm as efforts are intensified to provide lasting relief for road users.
“We will continue to put the interests of Edo people first,” the governor said.
The Benin-Agbor Road is a major transport corridor linking Edo and Delta states and serves as an important route for motorists travelling between the South-South and other parts of the country.
