The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State to adopt consensus or direct primaries in selecting candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umahi made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, where he urged party members and aspirants to embrace dialogue, unity, and internal democracy in order to strengthen the party.
The minister disclosed that he had consulted with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, clarifying that there was no directive from the president barring aspirants from purchasing nomination forms.
“I have spoken to Mr President and our governor and there was no instruction from Mr President that those who want to contest elections in Ebonyi State should be shut off from buying forms,” Umahi said.
While reaffirming the democratic rights of aspirants, Umahi reiterated his support for both President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, noting that the governor had been adopted as the party’s preferred candidate in the state.
“Dialogue and negotiation should be adopted by the governor to possibly reach consensus among all aspirants, and where consensus is not reached, then direct primaries must take place,” he added.
The former Ebonyi State governor emphasized that his political loyalty remains with the president and the governor, stressing that unity within the party is crucial to electoral success.
According to him, the strength of the APC lies in collective effort and shared commitment, urging members to work together to secure victory for all party candidates in the المقبلة elections.
Umahi concluded by calling on party faithful to remain united, stating that no single individual can achieve electoral success without the support of others.
