Osborn Nweze Umahi, 28-year-old son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emerged Chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, following Saturday’s local government election.
According to Vanguard, Umahi, contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is expected to lead the council for the next phase of its grassroots development.
Shortly after his victory, the chairman-elect pledged to forgo his statutory salary and allowances throughout his tenure.
Umahi said the decision was driven by his desire to prioritise development and public service over the financial benefits attached to political office.

He identified infrastructure development, youth empowerment, support for businesses and improved local government services as some of the key areas his administration would focus on.
Umahi, an engineer and businessman, is the son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
His emergence at the age of 28 places him among a growing number of young Nigerians seeking elective positions and taking on leadership roles in governance.
The new chairman will be expected to translate his campaign promises and salary pledge into tangible projects and improved services for residents of Ohaozara during his tenure.
