Senators Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, alongside Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, have emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s senatorial candidates in Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Umeh emerged as the candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, while Nwoye secured the ticket for Anambra North.
Onunkwo emerged as the party’s candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial District.
The candidates emerged from the party’s state and National Assembly primaries held across Anambra State on Friday. The exercise was conducted under the Option A4 system.
It began with the accreditation of registered party members, while voting commenced in the afternoon with what party officials described as an impressive turnout.
The party also produced candidates for the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly elections.
A total of 11 candidates emerged for the House of Representatives, while 30 candidates were produced for the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Speaking after the primaries, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Ikem Uzoezie, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.
He said the party had set a record for conducting one of the most peaceful, transparent and credible primaries in the state.
“We congratulate all aspirants that emerged as candidates and those that could not make it, this was a great show of sportsmanship among the aspirants,” Uzoezie said.
Speaking on behalf of the winners, Onunkwo said the party’s candidates shared a collective desire to move Anambra State forward.
He said the state was blessed with men and women of integrity who were ready to serve.
Onunkwo said, “We are happy with the peaceful process, and we salute our party members for conducting themselves peacefully.
“With the set of candidates in our party for the coming elections, our state is set to experience populist representation that would take our state to a higher level.”
