Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has directed relevant ministries, agencies, consultants and contractors to review the state’s drainage master plan within one week following flooding in parts of Uyo.

The governor disclosed this in a post on his official X page on Sunday after inspecting flood-affected communities in the state capital.

According to Eno, the review is expected to produce both immediate and long-term solutions to address recurring flooding in the state.

He also announced that buildings obstructing natural waterways would be removed to restore the free flow of stormwater.

“Buildings blocking natural waterways will be removed, with proper engagement and compensation where necessary, to allow the free flow of stormwater,” the governor said.

He further urged residents to support the government’s efforts by keeping drains and waterways free of refuse to reduce the risk of flooding.
