The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Rt Rev Dr Michael Kalu Ukpong gas warned politicians against misusing public office, stressing that all deeds by man must be accounted for before God now or hereunder.
In his special message during an Inter-Denomination Thanksgiving Service to commemorate three years of Governor Alex Otti’s administration in Abia State, Rt Rev Ukpong urged Nigerians to contribute in multiplying quality leadership and governance, describing Otti’s three years in office as Abia governor as very remarkable.
“Dr Alex Otti has done very well. We should cooperate with him to do more. We should also trust God and His promises. That’s where our salvation lies”, the man of God declared.
The Inter-Denomination Thanksgiving Service, held at the Umuahia Event centre, Okpara Square, attracted large crowd of the clergy, captains of industry, politicians, gospel musicians and the public across the country.
It marked the beginning of the ceremonies lined up for the three-year anniversary of the impactful and visionary leadership in Abia.
Delivering his message at the occasion, a guest preacher, Dr Emma Okorie of the Living Word Church described Alex Otti as the Moses of our time, contending that through the vision of the Almighty, Otti was able to accomplish so much under three years.
The title of his message is: “Where There’s No Vision, The People Perish”. Pastor Okorie, reading several texts from the Bible at the event, likened Abia to the Israelites of old whom he said suffered for many afflictions in hands of Pharaoh and his task Masters before God intervened and raised Moses to deliver them from bondage.
The cleric regretted that Abia went through that same agony for 24 years until Alex Otti came to power.
In his brief speech, Governor Otti thanked the clergy for their fervent prayers before, during and after 2023 polls, insisting that without their prayers he would not have been governor let alone performing excellently.
According to him, the weeklong celebration would be used to commission several projects such roads, hospitals and health centres, power facilities, as well as laying of foundation stone for an Ecumenical Centre in Umuahia.
He added that Thanksgiving service was being held to appreciate God for his services, faithfulness, goodness as well as the remarkable progress in Abia, the ‘God’s Own State’.
