CENTCOM said the latest operation began at 6.45 pm ET and targeted Iranian military sites to weaken threats posed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to commercial shipping. It added that US forces had redirected 12 commercial vessels and disabled one since resuming the blockade nine days ago.
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions in Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Omidiyeh, Qeshm and Andimeshk, attributing them to US missile strikes. Local officials said two people were injured in an attack on Allah-o-Akbar Hill in Bandar Abbas.
The continued escalation has pushed Brent crude to close above $101 a barrel on Thursday.
