US-Iran War Live Updates: US launches fresh strikes on Iran, targets missile systems, boats after Tehran expands attacks on Gulf states

US-Iran War Live Updates: The United States has reportedly expanded its military strikes on Iran, targeting several locations across the country’s south and west in the early hours of Monday, according to Iranian state media.

Which Iranian cities were targeted in the latest attacks?

According to reports, the latest wave of attacks covered a much wider area than previous strikes. The reported targets include Qeshm, Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Jask, Bushehr, Khondab, Bandar Mahshahr, Behbahan, Andimeshk, Dezful, Ahvaz, Abadan and Khorramshahr.

Why did the US launch fresh strikes on Iran?

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces began launching fresh strikes at 5 pm ET on Sunday. In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation aimed to further weaken Iran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It added that the Commander in Chief had ordered the strikes to hold Iranian forces accountable.

The latest operation marks the fourth round of US strikes on Iran within a week.

According to CENTCOM, the attacks were launched after Iranian forces allegedly targeted a Cyprus-flagged container ship. CNN also reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired at commercial vessels again, prompting US aircraft to intercept an Iranian cruise missile and an attack drone.

Following the US strikes, Iran reportedly carried out retaliatory drone and missile attacks on American allies in the Middle East, including Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar. According to Bloomberg, the attacks caused only minor damage, and no injuries were reported.

The situation has further raised concerns over regional security and the safety of global shipping routes through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
