US-Israel-Iran War News Live Updates: Trump says deal with Iran on truce, Strait of Hormuz reopening expected ‘over next week’

US-Israel-Iran War News Live Updates: US President Donald Trump has said a deal with Iran could be possible as early as next week, raising hopes of easing tensions in the region. According to reports, Trump also claimed that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to dial back fighting after backchannel talks.

Can Israel and Hezbollah really stop fighting now?

Trump said Hezbollah has agreed to stop attacks, while Israel would avoid striking the group. The statement came after his discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect communication with Hezbollah through mediators.

However, the situation remains tense. Just hours before Trump’s remarks, Israel ordered fresh strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs in response to rocket fire and alleged ceasefire violations by Hezbollah. This has raised doubts about how quickly any de-escalation can actually take place.

Why is Iran linking talks to a Lebanon ceasefire?

Iran has made it clear that any deal with the United States depends on a ceasefire in Lebanon. Iranian state media said Tehran may suspend talks if Israel continues expanding its military operations in southern Lebanon.

Tensions have also risen after recent military exchanges between the US and Iran. The US said it carried out strikes on Iranian defence and drone sites after Iran shot down an American MQ-1 drone. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they targeted a US-linked air base.

Is a US-Iran deal still realistic?

Despite the escalation, Trump insisted that Iran “really wants to make a deal” and said it would benefit the US and its allies. He added that ongoing political commentary is making negotiations more difficult.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been in touch with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Netanyahu to push diplomatic efforts. The US has proposed that Hezbollah halt attacks in return for Israel avoiding further escalation in Beirut.
