USA Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have released the first images of their family of six following the arrival of their newborn son, Alec Neel Vance.
Alec Neel Vance joins older siblings Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
In a statement on his social media accounts, Vance wrote; “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The Vice President expressed gratitude to the medical teams at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care.
Alec’s arrival marks the first time in over 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president and second lady have welcomed a child while in office, a milestone last recorded in 1870 when Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen Maria Colfax, had a son.
As they transition to life as a family of six, the Vances plan to spend additional time in rural northern Virginia, where they are leasing part of a property in Middleburg.
The move is intended to offer their children a quieter environment away from the constant scrutiny of Washington, D.C. While the family will spend time at the Middleburg rental, they will continue to maintain their official residence at the Naval Observatory.
In a recent interview, Usha Vance discussed navigating parenthood under public observation:
“Everything that we do is in the public eye. We try not to put them in circumstances where they’ll be exposed and someday say, ‘Oh, you embarrassed me.’ So we try to keep most of what they do private, but when we are in public with them, we just let them be kids and let what happens happen.”
