US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran that the United States would bomb one Iranian bridge or power plant every time Tehran attacks a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions between the two countries after 11 consecutive nights of US military strikes on Iran.
The warning came through a post on Truth Social, where Trump said that any attack by Iran on a ship in the strategic waterway would be met with a direct strike on Iranian infrastructure.
“From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz… the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant,” Trump wrote, adding that the targets could include facilities located near Tehran.
US launches 11th straight night of strikes on Iran
Trump’s statement came shortly after the US military completed its 11th consecutive night of operations against Iran. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest operation lasted around 75 minutes late on Tuesday.
In a statement, CENTCOM said US forces targeted Iranian military operations centres, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure. The military said the strikes were intended to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
US accuses Iran of targeting commercial vessels
The United States has alleged that Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months. Washington says the repeated attacks have endangered one of the world’s busiest and most strategically important shipping routes, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies is transported.
Conflict continues to escalate
The current round of fighting began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran. Tehran responded by carrying out attacks on Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military bases.
Since then, the conflict has spread across the region, with both sides continuing military operations and issuing fresh warnings, raising concerns over a wider regional war.
Casualties reported on both sides
An Iranian health ministry official said the latest US strikes killed 50 civilians and injured around 500 others. Meanwhile, reports said that 18 US troops have died in recent days as the conflict continues.
The exchange of military action and increasingly strong rhetoric from both Washington and Tehran has further heightened tensions in the Middle East, with no immediate signs of de-escalation.
