A viral video allegedly showing an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign vehicle distributing loaves of bread to residents in Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election has sparked widespread criticism on social media.
The video, posted on X by influencer ChuksEric and sighted by NAIJAONPOINT, showed occupants of a campaign-branded vehicle throwing loaves of bread to residents who scrambled to pick them up.
The vehicle bore the inscription “Hope 2026” alongside the image of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the APC in the June 20 governorship election.
In the footage, the campaign vehicle was seen moving through a community while individuals onboard tossed loaves of bread to people gathered along the roadside.

The development comes less than 24 hours before eligible voters in the state head to the polls to elect a governor for another four-year term.
The video quickly generated reactions online, with many social media users describing the act as demeaning and reflective of the economic hardship facing many Nigerians.
Reacting to the video, X user, @talk_to_mercy, wrote: “Must you guys @OfficialAPCNg mock Nigerians? Haven’t you done enough? It’s a shame.”
Another user, @MosesCoker2, said: “This country is finished. Now they’re even using bread for campaigns. Will that bread sustain people through another four years of hardship? Nigerians deserve better than this.”
Similarly, @Fivestar4Ever described the scene as “very shameful to watch,” lamenting what he called the growing poverty in the country.
Others, including @joshuaosero, @WuchiChris and @Gracela9026392 condemned the manner in which the bread was distributed, describing it as degrading and inappropriate. They wrote:
@joshuaosero:This is highly dehumanizing like throwing bananas to Monkeys. Africa is cursed with CURSED LEADERS.
@WuchiChris:So this government of APC disgrace has reached the level of throwing out bread to human beings like animals. Evil that men do live with them.
@Gracela9026392:This is truly petty, Tinubu and his political animal weaponised poverty and see how they throwing loaf of bread for citizens on the road, it’s a shame.
However, some users directed criticism at the residents who rushed to collect the bread, arguing that such actions encourage politicians to engage in what they described as tokenistic campaign gestures.
@Gunpowder930386:They deserve it. They literally fed the crumbs since they refused to have sense.
@Sadiaparveenx:You can never do this in igbo land, never. I told you, Yoruba people, if this country good, it will favour all of us, if it bad na Yoruba people go suffer more.
@StanLon101:Slavery never left Nigeria it only exchanged hands from white to Nigerian leaders, God Yoruba people are so very hungry, they need your intervention very fast, look what politics has turned Yoruba people to, they turned them to beggars.
@Kenmasu777:APC does not need to rig elections. Dey only need to make Nigerians poor. Hunger will vote 4 dem. But d South West is still playing tribal politics, refusing to see the trap. One day, everyone, whether U are dancing wit a politician or not, will collect 4rm d consequences of dis govt
As of the time of filing this report, neither the APC nor the Ekiti State Government had issued an official statement regarding the video.
The governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 20, with political parties making final efforts to mobilise support ahead of the poll.
