Rapper and social commentator, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has criticised the Federal Government’s spending priorities, saying the ruling party’s “Emi Lokan” campaign slogan is the most absurd political message he has ever heard.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday, the entertainer dismissed claims by government officials that the administration was under pressure, insisting that those in power willingly sought public office and should be accountable for their promises.
Falz questioned the government’s decision to spend heavily on luxury items while insecurity remained a major challenge across the country.
“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets, acquiring all these things, and look at what has actually gone on with insecurity and what we’re facing, what are your priorities?” he said.
He argued that public officials had no justification for complaining about the demands of governance after vigorously campaigning for office.
“Did anyone beg you to take up this? If I remember clearly, apart from the fact that this is public service, and you do everything within your power to campaign, to enter into office, if I remember clearly, the campaign slogan for this administration was Emi Lokan,” he said.
According to Falz, the slogan, which translates as “It is my turn” in English, reflected a mindset that prioritised personal ambition over public service.
“I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life. That means from day one, that you set out on your political journey, this is the day that you have been waiting for,” he said.
He added that it was contradictory for those who actively sought political office to later complain about the pressure associated with governing.
“So why can’t you come and say pressure is much on you? Are you okay?” he asked.
