There was uproar at Arandun police station, Kwara State, following the arrest and detention of a 16-year-old girl, for three days.

The girl whose name was not given, was arrested for a crime committed by his brother whose whereabouts are unknown.

According to report, the girl’s brother allegedly stole someone’s electric generator and ran away. However, the police arrested the younger sister in his place.

In a video posted on X by @omoelerinjare, the girl’s family, neighbours, and community members were seen protesting her detention.

Meanwhile, in another video, the mother of the girl claimed that the police had earlier arrested her and also detained her for three days until she was bailed out over the matter.

She said, “The police arrested me and I was detained for three days, after which I was released on bail. A week later, they came back and arrested a 16-year-old girl and she has been locked up for the past three days.

“The police officer in charge said he won’t release her and threatened to send her to prison. I am appealing to the Inspector General of Police to please come to our rescue.”
