The Abia State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a local vigilante member who allegedly shot his girlfriend dead, stabbed her sister, and shot another man in Amakama, Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, identified the suspect on Thursday as Chinedu Anamelechi, saying the command received a report of the incident at the Umuanga Amakama community and swiftly deployed operatives to the scene.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the command swiftly raced to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the deceased in a pool of blood with gunshot injuries,” Chinaka said.
The victim, identified as Ezinne Ariwodo, was confirmed dead by medical personnel and her body deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy. Her sister, who was stabbed, and another young man who was shot were rescued at the scene and taken to hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Exhibits recovered from the scene were taken in for analysis.
Chinaka said normalcy had been restored in the community and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
“Investigation is ongoing as efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect,” she said.
