Warawa Local Government Area of Kano State has started receiving water for the first time in more than five years following the commencement of trial pumping along its distribution line by the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change.
SolaceBase reports that the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement signed on Wednesday after inspecting the Wudil and Joda water treatment plants.
According to the commissioner, the ongoing rehabilitation of the state’s regional water infrastructure is beginning to produce significant results, with improved water supply already reaching communities served by the facilities.

He explained that the Wudil Water Treatment Plant, which has a design capacity of 25 million litres per day (MLD), is now able to provide a more reliable water supply to Wudil Local Government Area after being placed on Band A electricity.
“The plant now enjoys between 18 and 22 hours of electricity daily, compared to barely one hour previously, making consistent water production and distribution possible,” Dr Hashim said.
He added that trial pumping had commenced along the Warawa distribution line to test water pressure and identify leakages before full restoration of supply.
“This pipeline is witnessing water flow for the first time in over five years and, once fully operational, has the capacity to serve communities up to Rijiyar Gwan-gwan,” he said.

The commissioner further revealed that similar pressure testing would soon begin along the Gaya and Dawakin Kudu distribution lines as part of efforts to systematically restore water supply to the affected areas.
Dr Hashim also said the Joda Water Treatment Plant, with a design capacity of 9.6 million litres per day, had resumed supplying water to several communities in Gabasawa Local Government Area.
He noted that the plant is currently supported by seven operational tube wells, while five additional tube wells are expected to become functional soon to restore the facility to its full production capacity.

Beyond water production, the commissioner said the ministry is carrying out rehabilitation of office buildings, construction of perimeter fencing and other renovation works to improve the security and operational efficiency of the facilities.
Dr Hashim commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as unwavering support and visionary leadership in revitalising the state’s water sector.
He said the governor’s commitment has made it possible to restore critical infrastructure and expand access to clean water across Kano State.
